Troopers investigate deadly crash in Williamsburg County

WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating following a deadly accident near Kingstree.

Troopers say the accident took place on US Highway 52 about 1.7 miles south of Kingstree. We’re told the accident was discovered on Tuesday, April 26 at 10 a.m. but officials believe the accident took place during the overnight hours.

The driver of a 1997 Chevrolet SUV was traveling north on Hwy 52 when the vehicle ran off the left side of the road and hit several trees. Investigators say the driver was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

We are working to learn the identity of the victim from the Williamsburg County Coroner’s Office.

The victim was the only person in the vehicle.
