During a news conference Monday, Greenville Police Chief Ken Miller said that a SLED investigation has determined the death of Officer Allen Jacobs was a murder-suicide.
Investigators found that Deontea Mackey shot Officer Jacobs five times. Officer Jacobs never drew his weapon. Mackey shot himself in the head on the Swamp Rabbit Trail.
Chief Miller said Mackey got the gun from a 17-year-old friend who stole it from his grandfather.
The friend, Trystan Merritt has been charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon and Larceny
Investigators were not able to recover video from Jacobs’ body camera and are still awaiting phone records for Mackey and his mother.
Mackey’s mother told investigators that she did talk to Mackey.
Mackey told her he had just killed a cop and was going to kill himself.
Greenville Police also hope to implement new body cameras in the Spring of 2017.
