BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — A Cane Bay Middle School student is in police custody after having a gun at school.
According to an incident report on Friday, April 22 at 3:20 p.m., the student and group of students were leaving Cane Bay Middle School when they stopped on a trail near the school to fight. The teen showed a black pistol to the group and then pointed it at another person. Witnesses tell investigators that the student released the magazine to show it was a real gun, placed it back into the gun and pointed it at the student again.
The group of students ran from the area, the incident report added.
We’ve learned the student arrested was carrying the loaded gun in his book bag all day while attending school.
Investigators say the gun is registered to the boy’s stepfather and was removed from the house without his permission.
The student is charged with having a weapon on school property, pointing/presenting a firearm, unlawful carrying of a firearm and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.
He was detained and transported to Cane Bay Middle, where he was placed in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice.
