State request independent mental evaluation for Dylann Roof

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — News 2 has learned new details in the case against Dylann Roof, the admitted shooter who killed nine people at Emanuel AME Church in 2015.

The State of South Carolina is requesting an independent mental evaluation.

In April, the court granted a continuance for the denfense. They wanted to present evidence on Roof’s mental condition but needed more time to prepare.

The State says they want to get do their own evaulation so they can either confirm or deny the defense attorney’s conclusions.
