Former Berkeley County Sheriff dies in North Charleston hospital

Former Berkeley County Sheriff James William “Jimmy” Rogers, Sr

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — Former Berkeley County Sheriff James William “Jimmy” Rogers, Sr., 82, of Moncks Corner has passed away, according to the Dial-Murray Funeral Home.

Rogers died Tuesday morning in a North Charleston hospital. In addition to being the former Sheriff of Berkeley County, Rogers was also a retired maintenance foreman for Home Telephone Company.

We’re told a visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at Dial-Murray Funeral Home in Moncks Corner. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the MUSC Children’s Hospital Fund.

Rogers is the father of Capt. James W. “Will” Rogers of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.  Will Rogers was shot in the head while on patrol at a gas station in Moncks Corner May 2015.
