Atlanta Hawks’ Sefolosha suing New York City after arrest

NEW YORK (AP) – Atlanta Hawks player Thabo Sefolosha has filed a lawsuit against New York City after he was acquitted of criminal charges stemming from a police fracas outside a trendy Manhattan nightclub.

The lawsuit, which also names five police officers, was filed in federal court in Manhattan Wednesday and seeks unspecified damages.

Sefolosha was arrested in April 2015. Police alleged he disobeyed orders to clear the street after another NBA player was stabbed outside the 1Oak nightclub.

The Swiss national said his leg was broken in the ensuing struggle, causing him to miss the playoffs. He was acquitted in October of misdemeanor charges.

Sefolosha alleges the officers arrested him without case and filed a false report.

A spokesman for New York City’s law department said it would review the allegations.
