Teenager arrested in connection to an attempted robbery in downtown Charleston

CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) — The Charleston Police Department has arrested a suspect for an attempted armed robbery on March 26, 2016 at 1000 King Street.

Jaron Major, 16, of 1000 King Street, is charged with attempted armed robbery and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Major was being held in the Juvenile Detention Center.

About 7:00 p.m., an employee for Peking Gourmet was delivering food to an apartment at 1000 King Street. He was on the staircase when he was confronted by a male armed with a rifle who demanded his valuables.

The victim grabbed the barrel of the rifle and pointed it towards the ceiling. A struggle ensued and the victim was thrown out of a door leading to the outside of the building. The victim ran to his vehicle and dialed 911.

The investigation is ongoing.
