Charleston, SC—The Charleston chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) hosted a ceremony to honor our nation’s heroes who fought in the Vietnam War. The pews at Grace Church Cathedral in downtown Charleston were filled with Vietnam veterans. They did not get the welcome they deserved when they returned home during and after the war. Tuesday’s event was a retroactive “thank you” to those men and women.
The ceremony started with the procession of the color guard and the sound of bagpipes filled the cathedral. Then the keynote speaker delivered a message about the sacrifices made by those sitting in the room and the ultimate sacrifice made by those who never made it home. The woman of the DAR passed out commemorative pins to the veterans thanking them for their service. The event culminated with the church bell ringing 50 times representing the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War Commemoration.
