A list of districts to receive money for teacher bonuses

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – A South Carolina House proposal distributes $9 million to 42 high-poverty school districts to help them recruit and retain teachers. Districts’ share would be based on student population. The following lists the districts by their poverty index, which represents the percentage of students who qualify for free or reduced-cost lunches and/or Medicaid:

1. Allendale County – 98.5 percent of students in poverty

2. Clarendon 1 – 98.3 percent

3. Hampton 2 – 97.8 percent

4. Lee County – 97.8 percent

5. Bamberg 2 – 97.7 percent

6. Williamsburg County – 97.6 percent

7. Florence 4 – 97.3 percent

8. Orangeburg 3 – 96.7 percent

9. Jasper County – 96.2 percent

10. Marion County – 95.5 percent

11. Barnwell 19 – 95.3 percent

12. Fairfield County – 94.6 percent

13. Dillon 4 – 94.4 percent

14. Florence 3 – 94 percent

15. Marlboro County – 93.8 percent

16. Orangeburg 5 – 93.2 percent

17. Clarendon 2 – 92.2 percent

18. McCormick County – 92 percent

19. Calhoun County – 91.1 percent

20. Colleton County – 89.3 percent

21. Lexington 4 – 87.7 percent

22. Dorchester 4 – 87.1 percent

23. Barnwell 29 – 86.2 percent

24. Hampton 1 – 85.9 percent

25. Orangeburg 4 – 85.8 percent

26. Laurens 56 – 85.3 percent

27. Greenwood 51 – 83.8 percent

28. Barnwell 45 – 83.7 percent

29. Darlington County – 83.2 percent

30. Saluda County – 83 percent

31. Chester County – 82.9 percent

32. Laurens 55 – 82.8 percent

33. Chesterfield County – 82.8 percent

34. Sumter County – 82.7 percent

35. Union County – 82.2 percent

36. Richland 1 – 82.2 percent

37. Anderson 3 – 81.4 percent

38. Cherokee County – 80.7 percent

39. Lexington 3 – 80.4 percent

40. Dillon 3 – 79.8 percent

41. Lexington 2 – 79.8 percent

42. Abbeville County – 79.7 percent
