CofC aims to take down No. 5 South Carolina

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Following a three-game sweep of Delaware to open Colonial Athletic Association play over the weekend, the College of Charleston baseball team travels to Columbia to take on fifth-ranked South Carolina on Tuesday at Founders Park. First pitch is set for 7 p.m

The Cougars (17-7) have won five consecutive games, while South Carolina (23-2) is riding a 13-game winning streak. CofC outscored Delaware 32-8 led by Tommy Richter, who finished the series 8-for-17. The sophomore was 5-for-5 with a walk, triple and five runs scored in the series finale. Richter, along with Dupree Hart, pace the offense with .333 averages.

Left-hander Eric Bauer (2-0) is expected to get the start for the Cougars. He enters the game having not allowed a run in 11.1 innings.

South Carolina went 3-0 last week with a three-game series sweep at Ole Miss. The Gamecocks are 23-2 on the year and 6-0 in the SEC, first place in the league and two games ahead of six SEC teams for the top mark in the league. The Gamecocks own a 13-game winning streak and the 6-0 start is the best start by Carolina in school history in league play. South Carolina’s 23-2 overall record is the best in Division 1 baseball right now with a .920 winning percentage. (
