The Mt. Zion AME Church hosted a Day of Unity, Reconciliation, and Healing to coincide with their annual Family and Friends/Homecoming Celebration on Easter Sunday. During the event, the church came together in prayer and thanksgiving to honor and appreciate the many blessings the Lord has afforded those through relationships with family and friends.
Mt. Zion Church recognized the Emanuel nine and the survivors of the Charleston church shooting by dedicating a portion of their courtyard grounds in their honor.
Jennifer Pinckney, the widow of Rev. Clementa Pinckney, spoke to the congregation on Sunday. She delivered a message about wholeness and how it is time for everyone to come together to achieve that goal. Her mission is to continue the work of her late husband through a foundation she started in his name.
During the service, Pinckney’s daughters performed a praise dance. Other survivors and family members of the victims of the Emanuel AME shooting also attended the service.
