Cool School: Drayton Hall Elementary

Drayton Hall Elementary is leading the way when it comes to  using  technology to enhance learning in the classroom.   We’re in West Ashley for our Cool School of the week.

Located near the historic plantations off of Highway 61, Drayton Hall Elementary has nearly 850 students in child development through fifth grade.  Drayton Hall  has received Palmetto Gold and Silver awards.  DHES  has a technology focus,     and has been named an Apple Distinguished School by the Apple Corporation since 2012,  the only elementary school in South Carolina to receive this honor.  The school serves as host to many visitors from around the world hoping to learn from  their technology practices.  Principal Brian Agnew says, “We’re a demonstration school for other schools trying to implement iPads and other technology in their schools.  Our teachers love to learn.  Their love to learn translates into the students love to learn and when the students love to learn, they go home and their parents love to learn as well.  They come in  here and they volunteer, and they do great things.  We have wonderful clubs. We’re a Cool School because we support the arts as well as technology.” Kindergarten students Jarquez Ravenel and Thomas say they teachers are nice. and they love that they have free iPad time.”   Kindergarten teacher Kristi Meeuwse, “We have visionary leadership here.. and that’s the key to all schools being successful. we have a very committed staff that does whatever it takes to help students learn. ***butt** and the technology serves as a very powerful tool that lets us leverage learning to the highest point that we possibly can.”

Drayton Hall also has avery strong and supportive PTO.  In addition to volunteering, and throwing the Bobcat Bash, parents also funded the school’s outdoor classroom, and  bought Apple TV’S for classrooms.
