Fight led to shots fired at Columbiana Mall, authorities say

COLUMBIA,SC (WCBD) — Columbia Police say a fight between three men ended with two firing shots before leaving the Columbiana Mall in Columbia.

Authorities say the incident took place just after 7 p.m. Saturday, February 20.

Police tweeted that they are evacuating the inside of the mall, talking to possible witnesses and gathering more details.

A helicopter has also been searching for more than an hour near the Columbiana Centre mall.

One person inside of the mall shared video on Instagram showing officers and K-9 searching the mall.

Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook said two men fired guns in the air in front of a jewelry store at the mall. We’re told the dispute started as a fight between two people, and another joined in.

Authorities are still searching for the three people involved. Officers have checked all local hospitals and not found any victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

The chief says officers want to review surveillance video soon.

Two hours after the shooting, Holbrook says people were still hiding inside stores.

The interstate exit near the mall was shut down following the incident.

At 9:45 p.m., authorities announced on twitter that the Harbison exit was back open to regular traffic.

At a second news conference of the night, police released the descriptions of the two alleged shooters.

We will update this story as more information becomes available.
