Highway Patrol investigating single-vehicle deadly accident in Berkeley County

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCBD) — The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle deadly accident in Berkeley County that happened around 2:20 a.m. on Thursday, February 18.

Officials say a 2003 Ford Mustang was traveling north on Highway 17-A near Mail Route Road when the car ran off the road and hit a tree.

The passenger, later identified as 32 year old, Tonda Wingo, of Bonneau, and the driver were not wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

Both the driver and Wingo were transported to Roper Berkeley ER in Moncks Corner where Wingo was later pronounced dead.

No charges have been filed and the accident is currently under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
