Student hit by car on way to bus stop

SUMMERVILLE, SC – A female student attending Flowertown Elementary School was hit by a vehicle while on her way to a bus stop Monday morning in Summerville.

The Summerville Police Department says at approximately 6:49 a.m., they were dispatched to the accident at the intersection of Parkwood Drive and Germantown Road.

When officials arrived at the scene, they say they found a 7-year-old child unconscious but breathing.

The driver of the vehicle says that she did not see the child cross the road.

A witness told authorities that the child missed the bus at Germantown Road and Craig Court and the witness saw the child run from her front yard into the road where she was struck by a 2015 Nissan Altima.

Medics transported the female student to the hospital for treatment of her injuries. Officials did not elaborate on the condition of the student or the severity of her injuries.

Summerville Police Department is still investigating the incident.
