CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) – Nature tourism, culinary tourism and sports tourism are among the topics being discussed this week at the South Carolina Governor’s Conference on Tourism and Travel.
The event opens Monday in downtown Charleston and continues through Wednesday. Tourism leaders and business people from across the state attend the meeting held annually at the beginning of the spring tourism season.
Tourism is an $18 billion industry in South Carolina.
On Wednesday, Duane Parrish, the director of the state Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Recreation will provide an overview of tourism in the state as a new season approaches.
Gov. Nikki Haley will also speak, and tourism honors will be awarded.
