KINGSTREE, SC (WCBD) — Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a verbal dispute leads to a man being shot to death and his mother being arrested for his murder.
Authorities say on Saturday, January 30 at 7:01 p.m., Williamsburg County Sheriff’s deputies and county EMS responded to reports of a shooting at a home in the 10000 block of Hemingway Highway in Kingstree.
We’re told when deputies arrived, they found George Goethe Mixon, III, 30, laying on the living room floor with a gun shot wound to the chest.
Investigators say Mixon was having verbal dispute with his mother, Phyllis E. Owens, 65, inside the home which led to the shooting.
Mixon died while being transported to an area hospital.
Phyllis Owens was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
She will appear before a magistrate judge for an explanation of charges.
Owens will remain at the Williamsburg County Detention Center until a bond hearing can be scheduled before a Circuit Court judge.
