Students from around the state are in Gaffney Saturday for the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Tech Challenge Robotics Championship.
Over a dozen teams were at Gaffney High School for the competition.
Organizers say it’s a sport of the mind and helps students get interested in science, technology, engineering, and math.
“More important than ever before if South Carolina is going to advance and progress and have new technology and sophisticated manufacturing, we need to grow this sort of technique,” said William Pedersen from the South Carolina Robotics Education Foundation.
This is the second year that Gaffney High School has held the state championship.
The South Carolina Robotics Education Foundation sponsored the event.
