GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) – Health officials say three people in South Carolina are being tested for the Zika virus, but no cases of the disease have been confirmed yet.
Media outlets report that state Department of Health and Environmental Control officials announced the three patients Friday. Department official Dr. Teresa Foo tells local media that the chances of getting Zika virus in South Carolina are minuscule. She says those being tested had traveled to one of the 24 countries with widespread Zika.
According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports, there have so far been no cases of local transmission of Zika in the continental United States, but there have been some cases among returning travelers.
