North Charleston Police say they have arrested and charged 17-year-old Bryant Bennett of North Charleston with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
Bennett has been charged in the fatal shooting that took place on Ranger Drive on Saturday, January 23.
According to a Sunday press release, officers responded to 2700 block of Ranger Drive at around 6:00 p.m. following a shooting report in which a 19-year-old male had been struck.
When they arrived on scene, police say the victim was suffering from gunshot wounds and he was transported to MUSC in critical condition.
The victim, identified as Lamonte Simmons of North Charleston, died shortly before midnight.
Officials say that according to witnesses, the male suspect and Simmons were engaged in a verbal argument in the front yard of the residence when the suspect pulled out a handgun, shot the victim and fled the scene.
Bennett turned himself in to police shortly before midnight.
He is expected to appear before a bond judge on Monday afternoon.
