NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — North Charleston police are investigating a shooting that left one person dead Saturday evening.
According to a Sunday press release, officers responded to 2700 block of Ranger Drive at around 6 pm following a shooting report in which a 19-year-old male had been struck.
When they arrived on scene, police say he was suffering from gunshot wounds and that he was subsequently transported to MUSC in critical condition.The victim died shortly before midnight.
The Charleston County coroner’s office identifies the victim as Lamonte Simmons of North Charleston.
Officials say that according to witnesses, the male suspect and Simmons were engaged in a verbal argument in the front yard of the residence when the suspect pulled out a handgun, shot the victim and fled the scene. Simmons and the suspect knew each other.
Officers are working to locate the suspect and the incident remains under investigation.
