RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Approximately 45,000 customers in the North Carolina remain without power as the sun is creeping out across the state following a hit by the first wave of the massive winter storm.
On Sunday morning, Duke Energy reports that about 48,000 customers are without electricity in North Carolina, and another 1,700 in South Carolina.
As of 1:45 p.m., Wake County has about 19,000 outages, while Johnston County has about 11,000. Nash County has just under 5,000 outages.
Some of the accumulation will thaw this afternoon as temperatures climb into the low 40s, but overnight, temperatures will dip back below freezing in many areas. Driving could again be treacherous late Sunday night and Monday morning.
