BERKELEY, S.C. – Berkeley High School’s former football coach is suing the school district on claims of wrongful termination and defamation.
Jeff Cruce was fired in December shortly after the Stags finished a three and seven season.
His lawsuit claims that he was fired because he did not make his players “hit more during practices” and principal Steven Steele did not agree with his coaching philosophy.
Steele fired Cruce in 2013 a day after Cruce filed a grievance against him. But then superintendent Rodney Thompson reversed that termination a day later.
The school district has not issued any statement on the lawsuit.
