The Charleston Police Department would like to remind homeowners and business owners of the city’s false alarm ordinance implemented on September 1, 2009.
Under this ordinance, a monitored residence or business will be allowed up to three false alarm responses within a year.
The fine is $50 for the fourth through sixth false alarms in a year, and $100 for each one after that. Each year, starting January 1, alarm owners will get three false alarms before they are fined.
The ordinance was implemented to reduce the number of false alarms answered by the police department.
