Red Cross assisting family of 5 after Thursday morning house fire

NEWS RELEASE: Firefighters from the North Charleston Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire in the 5100 block of Butler St. in North Charleston Thursday morning at 10:19 a.m.

First arriving units reported heavy smoke coming from the one story single family home.

A family of five was alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm and all were able to escape unharmed.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and is currently under investigation.

The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
