CHARLESTON, SC — (NEWS RELEASE) Thursday January 14, Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg, the City of Charleston Planning Department, The Beach Company and other key stakeholders will meet for the third and final time to discuss the Sergeant Jasper project. The private meeting will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the board room in the Spoleto House at 14 George Street. The Beach Company will issue a statement after the meeting.
The Beach Company is looking forward to tomorrow’s meeting and remains hopeful that the meeting will be productive and that a clear direction will be achieved through the collaborative effort of this group. In order for any plan to be viable, however, it will need to be expedited to allow the project to proceed in the coming weeks.
If a resolution is not reached, The Beach Company will continue with its alternate plan to renovate the existing Sergeant Jasper building and add adjacent buildings as it proceeds with its ongoing appeal of the Board of Architectural Review’s denial of the plan presented in June 2015.
For the past year, The Beach Company has incorporated many new ideas into the Sergeant Jasper plan and addressed as much as the community’s feedback as possible within the existing zoning. We remain committed to building a high-quality mixed-use development on the Sergeant Jasper site that will be a viable and positive addition to this special part of the peninsula.
