BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) – Beaufort police say they have found a DNA match they believe is from a man who attacked a woman before her wedding day, and that they have made an arrest.
Media outlets report Rhyan Mazur-Williamson was beaten by an unknown man in April 2009 and was forced to cancel her wedding plans so she could undergo facial surgery for multiple fractures to her nose and face.
Police went six years without finding a suspect. Last week they charged 32-year-old Said Perez.
Perez had been arrested in September in connection with the attempted sexual assault of a woman. Perez was swabbed for DNA and the sample was entered into the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System. It was flagged as a match with the 2009 attack.
It’s unclear if Perez has an attorney.
