Charleston— November 13, 2015 was the Trident United Way Day of Caring. West Ashley High School partnered with Joint Base Charleston, a military facility in North Charleston, to perform a Clean Sweep of the WAHS school grounds. This marked the second year that WAHS took part in the event.
Last year several classes and groups within the school worked with volunteers from First Citizens Bank to beautify one of our courtyards. They were responsible for building a patio outside our Culinary Arts classrooms and for building a greenhouse where they could grow certain spices that the Culinary Arts students would use when preparing meals.
Trident United Way’s Day of Caring provides an opportunity for corporate volunteer teams to partner with local agencies and schools in Berkeley, Charleston, or Dorchester Counties to increase community engagement.
Friday, November 13, 2015 marked the 15th Anniversary of the Day of Caring! Volunteers from Joint Base Charleston worked together with a number of WAHS students to provide manpower for the event. Students from drama, several of our science classes, Exceptional Children, and Mechatronics classes, as well as select DECA members from the WAHS chapter participated in the Clean Sweep.
Trash was collected on campus, shrubs were trimmed, flower beds were planted, and the ponds were cleared of debris. Lunch was prepared and served by the WAHS Culinary Arts classes for all of the volunteers.
