NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C.- Saturday, December 12th, Officers from the North Charleston Police Department will again make Christmas both Merry and Bright for over 80 elementary and middle school students, as a part of the department’s “Kids and Cops” program. Students selected are screened by school guidance counselors; and are paired with an officer who will spend the day with them beginning with breakfast, creating their shopping list, going on a shopping spree, and having lunch.
Lt. Kathy Love, said, “The thought came up several years ago by school resource officers that some kids were not going to have a Christmas at all, so we began to brainstorm and try to think of any way that we could help as many kids as possible to have a great Christmas.” Last year, nearly 100 students took part in the $150 shopping spree at Wal Mart.
