Muslim groups raise more than $110K for San Bernardino victims in five days

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A consortium of Muslim groups, led by a Knoxville-native, has raised more than $112,000 in just five days for victims of the terror attack in San Bernardino.

Muslims United for San Bernardino originally had a goal of raising $50,000, but reached that goal in only 48 hours. That goal was raised to $100,000, which as of Wednesday morning has been surpassed.

The initiative was founded by Faisal Qazi, president of the MiNDS network, and Knoxville-native Tarek El-Messidi, founder of Celebrate Mercy, a Muslim-based non-profit. El-Messidi says he is managing the campaign from Knoxville.

Fourteen people were killed and 21 injured in the attack last week.
