Man uses credit card stolen during burglary; faces bond court judge

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC — The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office has arrested the person who they say used a stolen credit card taken during a burglary.

Christopher Hiott, 33, of Walterboro is charged with financial transaction card fraud.

We’re told Hiott became a person of interest after a burglary took place at a home on Binnicker’s Bridge Road in August. Officials say the home owner reported a golf cart and a welder among several items taken, including a financial card.

cardtheft1Two days after the burglary, a bank’s ATM camera in the town of North captured an image of a suspect using the stolen card.

During the hearing on Wednesday, December 9, the victim told the court the card had been used to purchase more than $2,500 worth of items.

Bond was set at $5,000.

If convicted, Hiott faces a fine between $3,000 and $5,000 and up to five years in prison.

The court can also order restitution be made.
