The battle between Santee Cooper and the Century Aluminum plant continues.
More than 2,600 people signed an online petition in favor of keeping the Mount Holly plant open.
Century Aluminum says it can’t afford to pay current energy rates and is looking for a reduction.
Santee Cooper says that could mean raising rates for all other customers to cover the cost.
Representative Wendell Gilliard is now asking Governor Nikki Haley to intervene.
Gaillard released a statement saying:
The loss of the jobs would have a severe negative financial impact on the community and the state. Therefore, I urge the citizens of South Carolina to stand with me in requesting an intervention by the Governor’s office.
