In an exclusive video interview with DailyMail.com, the wife of the police officer accused of murdering an unarmed black man by shooting him in the back has spoken for the first time to plead for his freedom and acquittal.
Video footage of Walter Scott falling to the ground after being shot as he fled from Officer Michael Slager prompted outrage at the apparent injustice, and came amid rising concern over police treatment of African-Americans.
But Jamie Slager told DailyMail.com she is convinced of her husband’s innocence, and equally convinced that a jury will share her view – because, she says, the dead man had tried to Taser her husband.
The defense will use FBI-enhanced video footage which it says shows Scott on top of Slager – proof, in their view, that the officer was in fear of his life.
And in an interview from prison, the now former officer told DailyMail.com he too was confident in his defense: “I did what I had to do to save my life.”
