Suspect charged in 2013 Columbia shooting case

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Columbia police have charged a suspect in connection with a killing that happened just over two years ago.

Media outlets report 24-year-old Jacob Onay Green was recently charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Police say on Nov. 13, 2013, 21-year-old Nathaniel McKelvin was shot while on a porch on Martha Street in Columbia. Over the course of their investigation, police have identified Green as a suspect in the crime. Police say they haven’t determined an exact motive, but that they believe gang activity may have been involved.

Green was already in jail in connection with a shooting that happened in March of 2014 in Columbia. Officers say in that incident, Green shot a man in the leg during an argument.
