MOUNT PLEASANT, SC – For many shoppers in Mount Pleasant, it was a last minute dash down the aisle at the grocery store Wednesday night.
It seemed as if the turkeys and the canned goods were flying off the shelves.
“This is our busiest day of the year,” explained Tracey Shor, who is the Catering Specialist at Whole Foods Market of Mount Pleasant.
From the time the doors at Whole Foods in Mount Pleasant opened, they said they were swamped with Thanksgiving shoppers.
“Today alone we did close to 700 pickups,” said Shor. “People seem like they don’t want to cook as much this year.”
Whole Foods in Mount Pleasant said they were actually 10 times busier than normal. Shor told News 2, “We’ve had over 1,300 orders this season and people just come in and they pick up their food…We just want to take the stress away this year.”
A little stress relief for shoppers like Kathy McCreedy who said she’s a vegan, but she still needed to pick up a turkey for her husband and her son. McCreedy told News 2, “It’s going to look lovely on the holiday table!”
Wednesday, Whole Foods Market Mount Pleasant actually needed police to direct traffic because they were so busy.
Shor said, “We have been slammed since this morning. The doors opened at 8:00am and people were rushing in with their carts! We expect a very busy day tomorrow morning as well.”
Whole Foods Market isn’t the only grocery store in Mount Pleasant staying open on Thanksgiving. Whole Foods will be open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Bi-Lo will be open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Harris Teeter will be open all night and then until 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
Wal-Mart will be open all day, considering they are a 24 hour store.
However, Publix and the Joint Base Charleston Commissary will be closed on Thanksgiving.
