SUMMERVILLE, SC –Summerville Town Council voted on Wednesday to approve the first reading of an ordinance that changes how the town is run.
Summerville town council unanimously passed an ordinance striking a section of the township’s by-laws naming the Mayor as Chief Executive.
That change takes away the Mayor’s power to direct executive officers without the councils approval and lower’s the mayor’s income from $45,000 to $15,000 a year.
That proposal was only on the first reading.
Wiley Johnson will be inaugurated into the mayoral position in January.
