Highest ranking in school history: Bucs ranked No. 8 in FCS Coaches Poll

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern is ranked among the nation’s top-ten for the first time in program history. The Bucs moved up five spots to No. 8 in the FCS Coaches Poll following their win over Kennesaw State on Saturday. CSU is ranked No. 11 in the latest STATS FCS Poll.

CSU’s previous highest national ranking came in November of 2013, when it was tabbed No. 12/13 in the respective polls. The Bucs have now been ranked for 15 weeks during Jamey Chadwell’s three-year tenure as head coach. CSU was ranked for one week prior to that time.

CSU clinched a share of the Big South title earlier than any team has in the league’s existence. A victory Saturday against Liberty would make the Bucs the first squad to go undefeated in league play since Stony Brook did so in 2011. CSU’s only loss of the year came to FBS member, Troy University.

The Bucs continue to lead the country in total defense, and rank top-ten nationally in first downs defense (2nd), passing yards allowed (4th), time of possession (4th), turnovers lost (6th), scoring defense (7th), third down defense (9th) and punt returns (10th). CSU also sports the nation’s 12th ranked rushing offense.
