Charleston Southern ranked in top-15 in both national polls, The Citadel moves in top-25

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern surged in both national polls following its victory over top-ranked Coastal Carolina on Saturday. The Bucs moved up six spots to No. 13 in the FCS Coaches Poll, and nine spots to No. 15 in the STATS FCS Poll.

CSU recorded 24 unanswered points to take a 15-point lead against the rival Chanticleers, and held on for a 33-25 victory to take sole possession of first place in the Big South Conference. Coach Jamey Chadwell’s Bucs are one win away from at least a share of the Big South title and the program’s first ever berth in the FCS Playoffs.

CSU’s highest ranking came in November of 2013, when it was tabbed 12th in the Coaches Poll and 13th in the media poll. Those rankings followed a win over an undefeated Coastal Carolina team that was ranked No. 3 in the country entering the game. CSU has now been ranked for 14 weeks during Chadwell’s two-plus year tenure. The program was in the national rankings for just one week in its first 22 seasons.

Coastal fell to 8th in both polls. The Citadel, which CSU defeated on the road with a dominant second half effort in September, moved into the national rankings at No. 22 and 25, in the two respective polls.

CSU leads the country in total defense and also ranks among the nation’s top-ten in first downs defense (2nd), passing yards allowed (3rd), fewest interceptions (4th), fewest turnovers (5th), time of possession (6th), scoring defense (7th) and pass efficiency defense (8th).
