MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A new report released Monday from SafeWise.com has ranked the top 30 safest cities in South Carolina.
SafeWise is a community-focused security organization that documents information on different cities throughout the U.S. The company explains on its website that it is committed to increasing safety education, awareness, and preparedness.
SafeWise explains on its website how the safest cities are determined:
To determine the 30 safest cities in South Carolina, we looked at the most recent FBI Crime Report. We first narrowed the list down to those cities that reported complete crime data to the FBI and had a population of more than 2,000 people in 2013. Then we compared the number of reported violent crimes (murder, robbery, rape, and aggravated assault) and property crimes (burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson) in each city. Finally, to level the playing field, we determined the chance of these crimes happening out of 1,000 people.”
The top 10 safest cities in the Palmetto State, according to SafeWise, are:
- Tega Cay
- Fort Mill
- Mount Pleasant
- Fountain Inn
