Owner of stolen iPad pings tablet to drug filled motel room

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A man was able to track his stolen iPad to a hotel room in Myrtle Beach, where police discovered drugs and arrested the five people inside the room, according to an incident report from Myrtle Beach Police.

Myrtle Beach Police responded to the Crepe Myrtle Inn Motel Thursday just after 4:30 p.m. and spoke with a man who said his iPad had recently been stolen from his home and he was able to “ping” the tablet to room 214 of the motel, located at 401 7th Avenue North.

Officers went to room 214, where they discovered the door to the room was completely open and a strong marijuana smell was rolling out of the room. Officer could also see a marijuana bowl on the night stand between the two beds.

The man to who the room was registered, Jason Daniel Kelly, 31, refused to let officers search the room.

After detaining everyone in the room and obtaining a search warrant, officers discovered approximately .2 grams of marijuana, along with numerous prescription pill bottles containing hydrocodone, none of which belonged to any of the room’s occupants.

All five offenders denied ownership of the drugs, according to police, and were all subsequently arrested.

Paul Derek Pierce, 38, is charged with drug possession of marijuana, drug possession of a controlled substance, and banking/federally chartered or insured financial institution.

Kevin Beau Hamilton, 36, is charged with drug possession of marijuana and drug possession of a controlled substance.

Kristie Lynn Hemmings, 37, is charged with drug possession of marijuana and drug possession of a controlled substance.

Renea Anita Carter, 31, is charged with drug possession of marijuana and drug possession of a controlled substance.

Jason Daniel Kelly, 31, is charged with drug possession of marijuana, drug possession of a controlled substance, and resisting arrest.

The police report does not say if the iPad was discovered within the room.
