CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern moved up three spots to No. 20 in this week’s FCS Coaches Poll. CSU is receiving the second-most votes of any team not in the STATS FCS Top-25.
CSU has been ranked for 12 weeks during Jamey Chadwell’s tenure as head coach. The program was ranked just one week over its first 22 seasons.
CSU (5-1, 2-0 Big South) turned in a second consecutive smothering defensive performance to pick up its fourth straight win on Saturday. The Bucs beat Presbyterian, 10-7, behind a defense that held PC to 142 total yards, including just 43 in the second half.
CSU now ranks No. 1 nationally in total defense, and has allowed just 257 yards in two Big South games to date. The Bucs are also among the nation’s best in first down defense (3rd), passing yard allowed (4th), rushing offense (8th), scoring defense (8th), turnovers lost (11th), third down defense (12th), punt returns (13th) and sacks (18th).
The Bucs go for their fifth straight win this Saturday at Gardner-Webb. Kickoff at Spangler Stadium in Boiling Springs, N.C. is set for 1:30 p.m.
