NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Doctors have delivered the baby of a pregnant North Charleston woman who police say was stabbed to death by her boyfriend.
Police say 26-year-old Malakia Lasha Frazier was found Saturday night lying on the ground near Railroad Avenue and Graham Street with multiple stab wounds. Charleston County Deputy Coroner Dottie Lindsay says Frazier died less than an hour later at a hospital, where staff performed an emergency procedure to deliver the baby. The infant was in intensive care, as of Sunday.
Authorities say 26-year-old Ricky Short is charged with murder, attempted murder of an unborn child and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
North Charleston police spokesman Lt. Angela Johnson said Short and Frazier were arguing before the stabbing.
It is unclear if Short has an attorney to comment on the charges.
