ANDREWS, SC – Severe flooding made it nearly impossible for one local family to say goodbye to their loved one.
Andrews native, 26-year-old Erica Wilder died in a head on collision with a log truck on October 2.
“I asked them to cover her and let me just hold her hand,” her sister, Jessica told News 2. Erica was so severely wounded from the wreck on Highway 41, family could not see her before cremation.
“It doesn’t seem real until you get to see them; you feel them; hug them, tell them bye,” Jessica explained.
At First Baptist Church in Georgetown the family finally paid their respects. The funeral services had been pushed back three times because of flooding and severe weather.
Her six-year-old son, Michael, was in the car and he also died. Erica was also 13 weeks pregnant.
“Not only did I lose my nephew, I lost a possible niece or nephew. We don’t know,” Jessica said.
Jessica’s son lost his best friend. “I just felt like I wanted to wake up. I wanted to dream to be over,” Jessica’s son, Jacob said.
The family is set up an account on the crowd funding site go fund me. They tell News 2 they know other people are experiencing a loss right now but hope people will pitch in with funeral costs.
