CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland authorities say a drive-by shooting killed a baby girl who was hit in the chest while riding in a car.
The county medical examiner’s office says emergency medics rushed the 5-month-old girl to a children’s hospital, where she died after the shooting Thursday.
WEWS-TV reports police said the baby’s mother was driving with at least one other person in a neighborhood a few miles southeast of downtown, and only the child was hit.
WKYC-TV reports officials suspect the gunfire came from an apartment building, but no immediate arrests were made.
Police Chief Calvin Williams and Mayor Frank Jackson visited the scene Thursday evening.
It’s the third deadly drive-by shooting of a child in Cleveland over the past month. A 3-year-old boy and a 5-year-old boy were killed in September.
