BERKELEY COUNTY, SC – During the early morning hours of September 29th, Berkeley County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a rash of motor vehicle break-ins at Wind Gate Mobile Home Park off Myers Road in the Summerville area of Berkeley County.
Upon arrival, Sheriff’s deputies discovered four vehicles had been broken into and commenced a search of the area. Twenty-one year old Johnathan Dillon Waltz of College Park Road in the Summerville area of Berkeley County was observed by Sheriff’s deputies attempting to break into another vehicle located in Wind Gate Mobile Home Park and a brief foot chase ensued. Waltz was subsequently arrested and is being charged with four counts of Breaking into a Motor Vehicle and one count of Evading Arrest.
Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis said, “Crimes like these strike at the very heart of our communities and neighborhoods and disrupt citizens’ lives. They will be the target of our newly formed Community Action Team (CAT). Working together with the citizens in our communities and neighborhoods, we will make a difference and enhance the quality of life for all the citizens of Berkeley County.” Sheriff Lewis also wanted to remind citizens of the importance of locking their vehicles and keeping valuables out of plan view.
