Man arrested in connection to Berkeley County home invasion following SWAT situation

The second suspect arrested: Matthew Grainger.

KNIGHTSVILLE, SC — Investigators with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office while conducting on-going Homicide investigation, received information of a possible location of one of the suspects involved in the home invasion and homicide that occurred at 512 McCrystal Circle on Sunday, September 27, 2015.

Members of the US Marshal Task Force with the assistance of the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence located in Knightsville in an attempt to locate the suspect.

We’re told upon arrival, US Marshals and DCSO deputies made contact with the occupants of the residence and it was confirmed that Matthew Grainger was inside the residence and had barricaded himself in the attic and refused to exit and surrender to authorities.

Members of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) SWAT team were notified and responded to the scene, upon their arrival the suspect continue to refuse to cooperate and exit the attic of the residence. After authorities issued numerous commands to the suspect to exit the residence, the decision was made to introduce chemical munitions (gas) into the residence in an attempt to get the suspect to exit the attic and surrender to authorities. Upon irritants being introduced the suspect Matthew Grainger exited the residence and was taken into custody without further incident. Matthew Grainger will be transported to the Hill Finklea Detention Center where he will be booked and charged with Murder and hold placed on him pending a bond hearing schedule for Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at 6:30pm.
