College of Charleston students are more aware this week after two violent attacks near the college campus over the weekend.
Police are investigating two separate robberies and a sexual assault downtown.
Early Saturday morning, police say two women were attacked in an alley off of Saint Philip Street. The suspect knocked them over and took their purses and cell phones before jumping a wall to get away.
Early Sunday morning, a woman was sitting on the steps of her apartment on Bogard Street and she was robbed at gunpoint, molested and punched in the face. That’s when she screamed. The suspect then fled the area.
Police say the suspect is described as a black male, 19-25 years old, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, slender build, with a medium complexion, a short “afro” hair style and wearing a dark sweatshirt and jeans.
Anyone with information can call Consolidated Dispatch at 843-743-7200 and ask for the on-call CPD detective or Crime Stoppers at 843-554-1111.
Students at the College of Charleston are now on edge after reports of these assaults and robberies.
One student even says she carries mace with her when she’s walking around campus.
Students are urging each other to always use the buddy system and be aware of your surroundings when walking around campus late at night.
