The dash cam video from a deputy involved shooting in Dorchester County has been released.
The video captures the moments before and after the shooting that left Shamir T. Palmer of Ridgeville dead, after he lead law enforcement on a chase through Dorchester County.
State Law Enforcement Division spokesman Thom Berry says Palmer fired at least one shot at a trooper’s vehicle while being pursued.
Deputies told the driver to drop what appeared to be a weapon, but fired the fatal shots when it didn’t happen.
The dash cam video shows the moment the deputy’s car accelerates on a dirt road and captures the moment when deputies simultaneously fired their weapons before Palmer falls back on his front seat.
The gunshots finally end and officers pull Palmer from the car. The dash cam shows officers trying to get a response from Palmer who has a pulse but is not breathing.
Palmer was later pronounced dead.
The dash cam video shows how Palmer’s shooting by police officers actually unfolded.
The officers, Sergeant Shawn Angelo, Private First Class Silas Carter and Reserve Private First Class David Hunt, were placed on administrative leave after the incident. This is standard procedure after any officer fires their weapon.
The coroner ruled Palmer’s death, suicide by cop.
The National Action Network says it still has questions on why Palmer was shot. They will hold a news conference on Friday, September 11 at 11:00 a.m. on the incident.
