Civil Rights group seeks answers in deputy involved shooting

Shamir T. Palmer of Ridgeville was killed after leading law enforcement on a chase through Dorchester County.

The National Action network held a press conference Friday regarding the death of a suspect by deputies in Dorchester County.

The civil rights group along with the family of Shamir Palmer say they have more questions about the fatal shooting.

Authorities say Palmer fired shots at officers during a chase on August 8th. Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet says when Palmer’s car was so damaged it couldn’t run that Palmer got out and pointed his gun at officers.

Nisbet says a friend also told investigators that Palmer told him he was not going back to prison.

The coroner says he ruled the death a suicide because Palmer created the conditions that led to his own death.

Friday’s news conference will begin at 11:00am at the Dorchester County Sheriff’s office in Summerville.
