Driver Pronounced Dead After Driving Off the Road in Awendaw

The driver of a 2002 Ford Ranger was pronounced dead after driving off the road and hitting a ditch causing the truck to flip multiple times on Highway 17 North in Awendaw just before 12:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2.

Charleston County Sheriff’s Office says the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when they drove off the road and was pronounced dead at the scene by EMT’s. The driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The accident is under investigation by the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division and the Charleston County Coroner’s Office. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office will release the identification of the victim once they determine the cause of death.
